Eating out, going on holiday or having a hectic social life are often cited to me as excuses for being overweight and not being able to eat healthily.
Guess what? I don’t buy it.
You DO NOT need to fall face down into a bacon, double cheeseburger and fries, just because you are eating in a restaurant.
With a little knowledge and preparation, eating out – either at home or on holiday – need not be a recipe for a Butter Ball Butt.
Follow my six simple steps and you will never need to fear dining out again.
1. Believe in Yourself
Dining out doesn’t mean pigging out. Just because you’re eating out doesn’t mean you have to eat everything on the menu! Be confident in your ability to choose and eat a healthy meal in a restaurant.
2. Control How Often
Just how often are you eating out? If you’re heading out for the third time this week then consider skipping the eating bit and meet your mates for the coffee afterwards. If you do eat out frequently, remember that no one ever ‘needs’ three courses, extras like desserts and fizzy or alcoholic drinks are unnecessary.
3. Research Your Restaurants
Choose restaurants that offer enticing, yummy, healthy options. Most eateries now have their menus online, so have a quick gander before hand to check it out and decide what you’ll eat.
4. Set a game plan!
If you’ve done number three then you can firmly decide in advance that you WILL eat a healthy meal. Plan your order before you cross the threshold. It’s much easier to have it in mind before you become really hungry or influenced by others and opt for the stodgiest, biggest thing in sight. Arrive pleasantly hungry but not famished.
5. Practice portion control!
The best way to not overeat is to order less. Order with your stomach in mind (it’s the size of a clenched fist) and be creative with the menu. Don’t be afraid to ask if you can mix it up or request a half portion of the ginormous roast dinner they serve. Ask for replacements such as salad for chips and for dressings and sauces to be served on the side. If you are reasonable and polite this is will not be a problem.
6. Know when enough is enough!
Yes, you have to pay a set price for your plate of food but you do not have to eat it all! Is it better wasted in the bin or on your hips? Get over the wasting money thing and put your body first. If you are full just STOP!
